HELMET FITTING

Fitting a bike helmet:

Position: Put the helmet on your head so it sits evenly the between your ears and rests low on your forehead - it should only be about one or two finger widths above your eyebrows.

Pads: Put foam pads inside the helmet so it feels comfortable but really snug. Usually, the helmet includes more than one size of foam pads they can be velcroed or stuck inside the helmet for a better fit.

Straps: Tighten the chin strap as snugly as possible. Adjust the junction of fronts and back straps just under the ears and secure backstrap without putting pressure on the front strap.

Troubleshooting Tips:

If the helmet moves back to uncover the forehead when pressing on the front of the helmet with the heel of your hand, then try to tighten the front strap to the junction. Also, adjust the padding thickness and/or position especially in the back. Make sure the chin strap is snug. If the helmet still moves it might be too big.

If the helmet moves forward and covers your eyes, then you may need to tighten the backstrap & make sure the chin strap is snug. Also you may need to adjust the padding thickness and position, especially in the front.

If the helmet slips from side to side, when you shake your head "no", then you need to check the padding on the sides and also make sure the straps are evenly adjusted on each side.

If the helmet does not pull down when you open your mouth, then you need to tighten the chin strap. Also, make sure the front and backstrap junction is under each ear, and is comfortable.

If the helmet does not cover the forehead, and sits too high above your eyes, then you may need to tighten any loose straps or maybe remove some padding from the top of the helmet. It should rests about an inch above your eyebrows.

A good helmet fit is very important, and sometimes it takes time to adjust. Please allow about 20 minutes to a half an hour to get the proper helmet fit. Experiments with different pad positions and strap adjustments. It has been shown that a bicycle helmet reduces the risk of serious head injury by 85 percent, and it is dangerous to ride without one.
