WORD FROM CORD MAR./APR. 2003 WETTING YOUR WINTER WHISTLE ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Glossary: Water Sled - What you ride when the white stuff is melting (or after heavy rains). Water Trail - What you ride the water sled ON (not in). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **Cord has been away doing various new stuff - he returns with yet another tale of….YIKES!! After the best winter in some time (LOTSA SNOW), Cord could not resist the rising melt waters recently. With each day warmer, each day the creeks would rise. A hybrid bike lock-up to a tree at the put-out started the escapade. Many miles later (17 upstream), the water sled (see glossary) is put-in. Ducks fly downstream after the first turn. Langy Herons, Twittering Kingfishers and an Array of Hawks greet you further on. But WHOA…watch your line...now you are getting sucked into the rapids backwards!! Further downstream, IT happens…this time you’re hung up in some tree roots…MAJOR hung up…like trying to get sucked under the tree hung up…>>Survival mode>> 1) save life; 2) save water sled; 3) look for and hopefully find paddle…. Cord manages to somehow accomplish these tasks and continue downstream. At the end of the water trail (see glossary), the muddy bank and hybrid bike are welcome. Now the water sled (sit-on-top sea kayak) gets locked to a tree. A cold bike ride to Cord cabin awaits…. Ride ON (not in) |
